Art Deco at V&A

Art Deco at the V&A

The Victoria and Albert Museum will open a sequel to its successful Art Nouveau show, held in 2000, with Art Deco 1910-1939 on 27 March through 20 July. Drawing upon the wealth of material from the 1920s, a period that flourished before the economic crash and depression of 1929, forecasters of doom in the present decade will be stimulated to see the dizzy heights reached by design as time (and money). Not only fashion design and jewellery, but also graphic posters, interior design, amazing textiles will combine to represent designers' interaction with the art of the day: Constructivism, Fauvism, and the works of Brancusi, Delaunay and Leger. The Strand Palace Hotel's massive Glittering Foyer is also to be reconstructed on show.
