Piper\'s tune

At Dulwich Picture Gallery, the late John Piper's 1930s works are on show in 'Abstraction on the Beach', through to 22 June 2003. This show helps to reposition Piper's important role in the development of British Modernism, and to demonstrate the way in which Surrealism enabled British artists to bridge the conceptual gap. Later, Piper was to return to a quintessentially English genre, revering a long-established culture threatened by oncoming war in Europe.
