British efforts to secure a commitment to host the Olympic and Paralympic
Games came from London, with the February 2005 presentation to the
Olympic Committee held before that of Paris. The razzmatazz for
London seemed energetic but somewhat forced, although the odds in
favour of a London venue have shortened favourably. The London 2012
bid promised much, but the seductive charm of Paris reasserted itself
with its projections on sports venues that are already up and running.
The battle is not yet won by a long shot.
