British efforts to secure a commitment to host the Olympic and Paralympic 
              Games came from London, with the February 2005 presentation to the 
              Olympic Committee held before that of Paris. The razzmatazz for 
              London seemed energetic but somewhat forced, although the odds in 
              favour of a London venue have shortened favourably. The London 2012 
              bid promised much, but the seductive charm of Paris reasserted itself 
              with its projections on sports venues that are already up and running. 
              The battle is not yet won by a long shot.
