Born in Glasgow in 1966, and winner of the Turner Prize in 1996, Douglas Gordon has lived and worked in Berlin since 2008. For his current exhibition in the former production hall of Der Tagesspiegel newspaper, Gordon has produced a film of traditional knife grinders at work within the Kasbah of Tangier. Their repetitive strokes are set to the soundtrack of their day, and work-worn hands are lit up against the starry Moroccan port skyline.
