During an artistic residency in Brussels, the photographer Vicente de Mello was struck by the absence of voices and music, sounds that are omnipresent in the clamorous streets of Rio de Janeiro where he lives. To capture this quietness in pictures, he used a Rolleiflex camera and experimented with light, aiming to make visible what is mute. The result is Silent City, an exhibition at the Espace Photographique Contretype, a centre for production and diffusion of creative photography.

Espace Photographique Contretype, Brussels, until 18 August 2013.
