Callum Innes wins Jerwood Prize

It has been announced that Callum Innes, a devout minimalist painter whose monochromatic statements of precision and flair, has won the UK’s Jerwood Prize, worth £30,000. Innes, 39, was selected from a mammoth entry of some 1,300 works sent by 494 artists. The winning works, ‘Exposed Painting, Ivory Black’ and ‘Exposed Painting, Vine Black’ will be on show at the Gallery, Jerwood Space, south-east London, until 7 July and then transferring to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery until 27 October. The Jerwood Foundation was established by John Jerwood in l994 and is open to all artists who are either of British citizenship or have lived in Britain for three years prior to the award date.
