Tracy Emin's career trajectory continues to rise effortlessly, and all to her credit. Now comes the hot news that she has been selected to represent Britain in the June 2007 Venice Biennale. The last Biennale was notably successful, and the Golden Lion Prize was won by France's Annette Messager (her work was focussed on the story of Pinnochio. It is entirely justifiable that Emin was chosen for her uniqueness, and for the growing richness of her work amid an increasingly drab and look alike body of work by British artists as a whole. The last British female artist to be chosen was actually Rachel Whiteread, also the first. In this instance, the British Council, who select the entrant, have chosen well.
