What can be done about the Dome? Well, it’s actually transportable anywhere outside the country. A rather tasteless idea was put forward after 11 September that it could be ‘given’ to New York. Fortunately for New York this has not been revived, however the point was made about it being a movable enclosure, sort of. But why not ship it to Afghanistan as a reception centre, or as an artificial all year round container for opium crops? Or to Athens, as a last minute problem solver for the 2004 Olympics (which, aircraft spotters will tell us, is seriously in trouble (it’s not just their aircraft)? Or a hub for Terminal 5, Heathrow? Or anywhere out of the country? Ideas, please.
